Ducati titanium cylinder head studs

Grade 5 titanium is not supposed to be suitable for cylinder head studs. Thats mainly for 2 reasons, its stretchiness and the ‘grab’ properties. In theory the stretch may allow blow past on the head gasket as the studs elongate under compression, they won’t break but they may allow gasses to escape across the gasket face and risk burning the gasket if its a composite one. The grab factor means you can’t get a good torque setting on the nuts unless the studs are coated to eliminate it.

Regardless, here’s a set for a 350 Ducati that are going to be tried. I have done them before and they do seem to work if they are regularly checked. I’ve got another set coming up for a modern Ducati, apparantly the factory did do head studs in titanium for some of the high performance engines.
