Suzuki DR 650 titanium spindles and bolts

To go with the 7075 alloy head stem i made last week for a Suzuki DR 650 i’ve also made the front wheel axle, swinging arm pin, suspension mounting bolts and engine mounting bolts. The swinging arm axle, engine mounting bolts and the shorter suspension bolt are made as studs, the long suspension bolt is as OEM as it screws into a captive thread in the frame.

AJS 7R alloy fork bump stop

AJS 7R 7075 alloy steering head stem

To go with the Matchless G50 7075 alloy head stems my customer also wanted one for one of his AJS 7R’s. He’s had a magnesium bottom yoke cast up. This made making it not quite as straight forward as the G50 ones as the hole through the yoke is a lot smaller than the bearing size, but i still machined it in one to ensure concentricity. Because the stem has to be fitted from the top of the yoke there is nothing but the fit in the hole to stop it moving, and with it being magnesium i didn’t want the interference

Matchless G50 7075 alloy bolts

Here’s a couple of 7075 alloy bolts for the G50. Although they are 5/16 UNF threads they have a Whitworth head size to suit a 1/4 Whit spanner.

Matchless G50 7075 alloy steering head stems

I’ve made a brace and a third of 7075 alloy steering heads stem for a Matchless G50. My customer has had a batch of alloy bottom yokes machined up so these stems are to fit them.   They have also had some titanium steering head bearings made to use with them, i didn’t make the bearings, and they are about 0.05mm oversize. So the first stem i made to fit the OEM bearing race left the titanium race a sloppy fit, so i’ve had to make them all slightly oversize, which happily corresponded to the interference fit needed for the yoke! so the bearing/yoke land is...
