Honda VTR SP2 titanium axles

Its been a while since I last did a pictorial history of making something. A customer in Japan ordered 3 sets of titanium wheel spindles for Honda VTR SP2, I guess some folk can’t get enough of it, and I don’t blame them!

First off turning a rear axle to size. These are BIG, 350mm long so deflection was a problem even though they are 25mm dia (35mm flange diameter)

Once its turned to size I then bore them. These had to be bored all from one end, 320mm x 19mm as the thread end needs a smaller hole. I don’t pilot drill them as the smaller the drill the easier it will wander off course, so I bore them full size all in one go. You can see

      Pete, as I carefully cut away the tape on the bubble film, what came out are the most exquisite pieces of lathe work I’ve ever held in my hands. If ever there was form with function, this would be the definition of it.
