Montessa 7075 alloy swinging arm spindle

I’ve done a few sets of spindles for Montessa’s, some in titanium and some in 7075. Originally they already have alloy wheel spindles but a steel swinging arm pin. The titanium wheel spindles come out at about the same weight as the original alloy ones by the time i’ve hollowed them out and skinny’d them down, but they have a lot more strength, the original alloy ones did break from time to time so i’ve been told. My 7075 ones are lighter than the original ones as i bore them hollow too.

Here’s a swinging arm pin i’ve just picked up from the anodisers. this one has been treated with a passivate coating to protect it from corrosion. it isn’t a hard surface like anodising as it doesn’t really need it. The passivate treatment is a dip solution which doesn’t require temperature, current and aggressive chemicals so it doesn’t stress the metal.
